The Cultural Hall was the heart of old Nauvoo’s social life. Built in1846, it served as a community and cultural center. The Hall was used for plays, concerts, church and business meetings, funerals, and court sessions. Brigham Young performed in one of the first productions. He later stated, “Life is best enjoyed when time periods are evenly divided between labor, sleep and recreation...”
