A social center for Nauvoo society, this house was Joseph and Emma Smith’s second home. Due to a constant flow of guests and dignitaries, a hotel wing was added to the house for a total of 22 rooms, along with stables to hold 30 horses and carriages. Emma Smith continued to live in the Mansion House until 1871 and then moved to the Nauvoo House in the 1890s.
